Four Questions to Ponder When Creating a Custom Real Estate Sign

Real estate signs are an essential way to advertise a home or property for sale or rent. However, when it comes to creating a custom sign for your real estate needs, it is not a "one size fits all" type of operation. Besides the pre-made templates to select from, you have various options when considering real estate signs for sale. Will you choose a solar powered or lighted sign? What materials are offered? These are a few of the questions you might ask, and here's what you need to consider:

1. What Materials Are Offered For the Custom Real Estate Sign?

Real estate signs may be custom created using a variety of materials. Although aluminum, plastic, and metal are most commonly used, sometimes wood is offered as well. The chosen material is often a matter of personal preference, although each has certain benefits. Consider the advantages of each of the above mentioned materials:

  • Aluminum: Aluminum is extremely tough and durable. It's the most commonly seen material in real estate signs.

  • Corrugated Plastic: This material is ideal for outdoor use as it is water resistant and will not corrode. It's fairly strong as well. Additionally, plastic is lightweight and easy to transport.

  • Metal Between Two Plastic Boards: This is another good outdoor solution as it is also waterproof.

  • Wood: This offers a rustic appeal that complements the exterior of many homes and properties. If you decide on a wooden sign, be sure the wood is treated to be resistant to dry rot.

2. Does the Sign Include All Posts, Frames, and Stakes?

Obviously you will need a way to display your custom real estate sign. Some companies offer all hardware included in the package. This might include frames and posts or stakes. On the other hand, you might need to order these essentials separately for an additional cost. It is best to inquire about this before you create your sign.

It's also important to ask about your options for supporting the sign. Should you choose a standard metal frame, a hanging sign post, or perhaps a portable sign post? The latter allows you to place the sign in another location easily.

3. Is It Necessary to Have a Lighted Real Estate Sign?

While some might not think it is absolutely essential, lighted real estate signs have definite advantages. If you decide to create an illuminated real estate sign, a practical approach is to obtain a solar powered sign. The sign will become illuminated after dark by harnessing power from the sun. They often include a few bright LED lights incorporated onto a solar panel. These lights will illuminate after dark automatically, so there is no need to manually set the sign.

So the answer to the question "Is it necessary to have a lighted sign?" is yes if you want your sign to be visible at all times, day and night, that is. As an alternative, you might simply choose a real estate sign with a reflective aluminum panel. This may offer somewhat better visibility at night than a standard non-lighted sign.

4. Are QR Codes Available for Real Estate Signs?

Did you know that your custom made real estate sign might incorporate a special Quick Response (QR) code that visitors may scan with their smartphone or tablet? This computer-readable code will store the web address (URL) and when scanned, it will bring up the web page and photos of the listed property on your sign. This will conveniently offer potential buyers a close up look at the interior of the home or property through clear photos, as well as offer important information. It can lead the individual straight to your real estate listing. Incorporating a QR code on the sign is worth considering.
